EarthStationTV Salutes The 'Elaho Prisioners'
We think that taking a stand to perserve pristine wilderness, wild life habitat and 1000-year-old trees is pretty cool. The future will prove that these people are visionaries and they will be seen as heroes. Meanwhile, they remain in jail and more will follow as the trials continue. Betty Krawczyk, Suzanne Jackson and Andrea Schaal are in;

Vancouver, BC May 30, 2000-Elaho protester and prisoner, Kevin Kunzler, was released late this afternoon pending his appeal of a 56 day jail sentence for a conviction of Civil Contempt of Court. This sentence is 8 times longer than anyone ever convicted of this offence. Three other protesters, remain in prison while they also appeal their harsh sentences. The four were convicted and sentenced last week for protesting clearcut logging of Canada's oldest Douglas trees by International Forest Products (Interfor) in the Elaho Valley last summer. Kevin Kunzler aged 21 was sentenced to 56 days in jail after refusing to come down from a tree sit he had been terrorized in by Interfor employees on September 15, 1999. The three others sentenced last were sentenced to 14, 28, and 42 day jail terms. Betty Krawczyk, aged 72, along with Suzanne Jackson have been in custody since their arrest on May 15, 2000 when they closed roads leading to the Elaho Valley, locking out Interfor from more destruction of ancient forests.
